A Little Piece of Earth from City Dirt for Urban Gardeners

City Dirt is a brilliant urban gardening blog. The founder will be publishing the book A Little Piece of Earth this coming winter. Don’t wait to start planting some seeds now and have fun experimenting with growing food in small spaces. It is truly possible!

Home gardening in the city is a wonderful urban hobby that will reunite you with nature. We just planted organic alpine strawberry starters and edible flowers. We love the window breeze now that it’s scented with blossoms. That reminds me, I need to refill the hummingbird feeder too. It’s simple to create your own enchanted garden no matter how small a space you may be working with. I can’t wait for A Little Piece of Earth: How to Grow Your Own Food in Small Spaces to come out so I can learn more on this topic.

Perhaps you’re more interested in gardening for meditation and beauty rather than for food, if so, check out City Dirt’s sister site Prospect and Refuge which,

“draws inspiration from Prospect-Refuge—a theory developed by geographer Jay Appleton. It describes a space where we have the best view, but don’t feel exposed, or unprotected. It’s why we don’t like to sit with our backs to the door; it’s the view from a rocky cliff above a valley or standing on a rooftop terrace overlooking a city. Urban gardens that provide both retreat and perspective are examples of this philosophy.”
