High School Student Teams Begin Quest to Harness the Sun as Metropolitan’s 11th Annual Solar Cup Kicks Off

Solar Cup, which began in 2002 with just eight teams and about 80 students, has become the nation’s largest solar-powered boat competition. Along the way, about 8,300 students have participated in Solar Cup competitions, which allow students to apply their skills in math, physics, engineering and communications, while learning about Southern California’s water sources, resource management and alternative energy development
