First Wind Announces Start of Commercial Operations for Oahu-based Kawailoa Wind Project

Late last year, the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission approved a power purchase agreement between First Wind and the Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO), which serves more than 400,000 Hawaii customers. Hawaii state law mandates 70 percent clean energy for electricity and surface transportation by 2030, with 40 percent coming from local renewable sources. Kawailoa Wind will significantly advance the state’s progress toward these goals.

Portland General Electric Seeks Renewables Proposals for Approximately 100 MW

The RFP seeks approximately 100 “average megawatts” of renewable power, enough to serve more than 83,000 typical PGE residential customers. Energy sources must be at least 10 MW and can include wind, geothermal, biomass, biogas, solar, and hydroelectric power. PGE said it may acquire either a single resource or a mix of resources to achieve the total desired renewable energy target. The utility anticipates the resources acquired will be brought into the company’s portfolio in the 2013-2017 timeframe.

MidAmerican Wind to Acquire Two California Wind Projects from Terra-Gen Power

MidAmerican Wind, a subsidiary of MidAmerican Renewables whose parent company is MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company, today announced its agreement to acquire the 168-megawatt Alta Wind VII and the 132-megawatt Alta Wind IX projects from California Highwind Power, a subsidiary of Terra-Gen Power, LLC. The projects are in Tehachapi, Calif., and will feature a total of 100 Vestas 3-megawatt V90 wind turbines.

NCC to Construct Wind Farms for SEK 460 Million

NCC Construction Sweden has been commissioned to construct a total of 123 base plates, with associated roads, for two wind farms on the borders between the Swedish counties of Västernorrland and Jämtland. The client is Statkraft SCA Vind AB and the total order value is SEK 460 million, which will be registered in the fourth quarter.
