Subject: Online survey intended to reach building owners on assisting cities in outreach and communication concerning local energy benchmarking ordinances.
Seattle, WA: Nonprofit public relations firm Resource Media is tapping into the minds of building owners with a new online survey in an effort to help cities improve outreach and communications around local benchmarking ordinances. Building owners that complete the survey before June 1 will be entered into a drawing to receive one of five $100 gift cards.
In recent years, nearly a dozen cities have enacted energy benchmarking and reporting ordinances that require building owners to track and report the energy use of their properties on an annual basis. The resulting energy use intensity (EUI) data and ENERGY STAR scores can be used to compare the energy efficiency of different buildings in similar categories. Building owners can also use the information to make decisions about energy saving improvements. To date, more than 48,000 properties representing 4.9 billion square feet are impacted by these laws.
Communicating the details of these ordinances to thousands of different building owners and managers is challenging in terms of both mechanics and messaging. Nonprofit public relations firm Resource Media is surveying building owners, managers and energy efficiency service providers in cities with benchmarking ordinances to help determine the strategies and messaging that work best – in particular with owners of smaller properties in the 10,000 – 75,000 sq. ft range. The firm will release its findings and a set of recommendations to help cities improve communications to building owners about benchmarking ordinances later this year.
Through a combination of one-on-one interviews and an online survey, Resource Media is gathering input from owners and managers of buildings under 75,000 square feet in cities with benchmarking ordinances. The online survey takes less than five minutes to complete. Those who complete the survey before June 1st will be entered into a drawing to win one of five $100 gift cards.
Austin, Boston, the state of California, Chicago, Minneapolis, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington state and Washington, DC, all have benchmarking ordinances on the books and in various states of implementation.
