Home Ventilation Control

Posted in:

intelliventBig buildings save energy by controlling which areas need to have heating or cooling, and not wasting energy on those spaces when they are not occupied. Similar features are sometimes found on high end homes (and are probably almost a necessity on the oversized starter castles spread across the outskirts of every city). But systems like that are hard to retrofit into smaller, older homes.

The functionality of a zoned heating and cooling system is available with the Intellivent. The intellivent replaces the regular register in a room and opens and closes according to its programming. This allows you to set zones which will get heating or cooling only at certain times of the day, helping to save on energy usage and cost.

Unlike a programmable thermostat, the Intellivent lets you control whether or not the ventillation system is supplying air to certain areas or rooms at the individual register.

It might be a bit much to put one in every room, but if there are some rooms that could be closed off at certain times of day, a couple of these units might be rather useful. And, used in conjunction with a programmable thermostat, any house can have a surprising amount of control over the heating and cooling.
