Granites are the essence of the continental crust and are only known to be on this planet. While this stone has been laid down through all geologic ages, most of it is thought to have been put down during the Precambrian age. The United States has a few areas where it is mined, but the majority of mining is done in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Portugal, Spain, India, Angola, Namibia, Zimbabwe and South Africa: hence, the term "exotic" to include all its patterns.

Those swirls, banding, and movement are made of who knows what. Just about every heavy metal known to man has been found in granite. While I am no fan of quartz, at least a consumer knows what is in the material.

Dismissing granites problems as a marketing issue is hardly an effective response to the major problem with the stone industries lack of concern. Put yourself in the shoes of a potential customer, if you are avoiding an honest discussion of the issues, it shows you've lost the debate.

"However, the problem granites are more likely to be exotic and to have a lot of “movement”, such as swirls or banding".

Problem granite with movement, or exotics, are a problem ONLY for Cambria and Sileston because they cannot replicate them. Hence, the war against the granite countertops? Why these granites are supposed to emit more radon that others?
