Couldn't agree more. I like it whenever anyone challenges mainstream dogmas. Restoring old things and giving them new life can actually be a very satisfying experience. You feel pride when you look at them. The pride that comes from your own ingenuity and creativity. By contrast, the sugar high of buying the cool new "green" cabinet will wear off pretty quickly for most people.

Very interesting blog. How important do you think green building will be in this year's election? Check out The Angle (http://blog.aia.org/angle/) the blog of my client, the American Institutes of Architects (AIA), as former AIA Denver president Kin DuBois will be blogging live from the Democratic National Convention on all things related to sustainable architecture.

Thanks for this article. It's always been interesting to me that the three "R"s of the green movement "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle" should have a fourth "R". "Re-new". My wife and I Renew a lot.

As you stated in you're article, the greenest thing you can do is to do nothing. (Don't buy new green stuff)Instead, you should "renew" what you have, or what someone else is getting rid of and then "reuse" it.

Thanks for this article.
