I have a copy of 'Audubon House' among my books on my shelf at work. I first learned about the project while I was in grad school when I went to see Randy Croxton give a lecture.

The excellent book about the building of Audubon House is listed in NCARB's prep material for the Architect's Registration Exam - that's how I heard about this terrific example of holistic design.

I think a lot of people who are proclaiming their affinity and activism in green building and green living are not really approaching it holistically.

Like you pointed out, building a stylish green home far from main infrastructure is not going to be a home where you can truly LIVE green.

Very few people who profess to be eco-conscious actually live in a truly green way. I know I personally have a long way to go, so I don't say I'm going green (until I make enough changes to qualify for that standard.)

Before someone labels themselves as environmentally responsible, they need to honestly assess if they're taking several steps to really LIVE green, and not just trying to make a stylish impression on others.
