The target is always to build requirement, which in turn attracts suppliers towards the field and eventually leads towards the improvement of newer and better solutions and providers. It is really not just great for your natural environment. It's also healthful for companies' bottom lines.

I enjoyed this book, it was a good read, and I've already got some action items in mind regarding reducing current energy use and some solar PV and solar hot water retrofits for the future.

The problems with distributed systems is that 1) they are inconvenient 2) they tend to become real headaches and interfere with home sales 3) they use technologies that interefere with the grid used by others, in expecting the grid to not only accept their mostly unwanted and random inputs but
even to pay for them. This is the result of politicians dictating rules that should be left to those who understand and have to work with electrical grids, not professors living in some ivory tower. We saw the stupidity of the CARB rules, which effectively directed most automakers down the fuel cell dead end and away from plug-in hybrids. We are only just now recovering from that idiocy and arrogance on the part of CA pols who seemed to believe, for no apparent reason, that they knew more about autobuilding than did the 15 worldwide manufacturers.
